The Sea Hunter sets the gold standard for liveaboard diving, blending the strength and functionality of a workboat with the elegance and comfort of a luxury yacht. Measuring 115 feet (35 meters), this purpose-built vessel was designed for long-range expeditions to remote destinations such as Cocos Island, offering divers a seamless balance of adventure, capability, and refinement.

Every detail of the Sea Hunter has been thoughtfully crafted to meet the needs of serious divers and underwater photographers. The boat features individual gear lockers, camera and strobe storage with 110/220V power outlets, dual camera rinse tanks, and even a drone takeoff and landing pad. Guests can enjoy ample communal areas, including a cozy indoor lounge, study, and expansive sun deck ideal for relaxing between dives or taking in the ocean views.

Accommodating up to 20 passengers in 10 comfortable staterooms, each cabin is equipped with ensuite bathrooms, individually controlled air-conditioning, hot water showers, daily housekeeping, and complimentary laundry service. The onboard chefs prepare fresh, diverse cuisine using sustainably sourced ingredients, with meals served three times a day and snacks available in between.

Bunk Style Cabin

The lower deck twin bunk-style cabin comes with personal hanging lockers, shelves, drawers and hanging hooks. A private bathroom equipped with 110-volt outlets suitable for guests electronic equipment. It's air-conditioned and carpeted throughout with a circular porthole.

Upper Deck Cabin

The upper deck features 2 suites equipped with shelves, drawers and hanging hooks, a desk and chair and a luxury bathroom with granite surfaces. Each suite uses 110-volt outlets suitable for guests electronic equipment. The rooms have large windows, are carpeted throughout and contain a satellite telephone for international calls. Each distinctly-themed room has original hand-painted artwork by Carlos Hiller painted on the walls.

Route Options

Experience an unforgettable 10-night liveaboard to Cocos Island, one of the world’s premier diving destinations. Spend six thrilling days exploring its vibrant underwater world, home to 12 shark species, 4 types of rays, 4 sea turtle species, and 16 marine mammals. Encounter schools of hammerheads and jacks, tiger and Galapagos sharks, marble rays, frogfish, octopuses, and the island’s 27 endemic fish species, including the rare Cocos rosy-lipped batfish. A true diver’s paradise filled with breathtaking encounters and natural wonders.

Arrival Day
Guests are advised to arrive at least one day before the boat’s departure. Upon arrival in San José, transportation can be arranged in advance, or taxis and minivans are readily available at the airport. Accommodation recommendations and arrangements can also be provided, though pick-up is only available from select hotels. The evening before departure, an Undersea Hunter representative will confirm the next day’s pick-up time via fax. Air transport, airport transfers, hotels, and meals before and after the trip are not included.

Day 1
Between 8 AM and 1 PM, guests are picked up from select hotels and transferred by bus to Puntarenas for boarding. The 2.5-hour drive passes through lush forests and farmland. Depending on the tide, guests may transfer by skiff to the vessel. Once everyone is aboard, the boat begins the 32–36-hour voyage to Cocos Island.

Day 2
A travel day at sea allows time to set up dive and camera gear, relax in the sun, and enjoy the company of fellow divers. Guests can also watch educational videos or take part in dive courses.

Days 3–8
Six days are spent diving the pinnacles surrounding Cocos Island, averaging three dives daily at depths of 60–100 feet (18–30 meters) or more.

Day 9
Guests enjoy their final three dives before the return journey to Costa Rica.

Day 10
A full day at sea to relax, share stories, and reflect on the adventure.

Day 11
Arrival in Puntarenas. After breakfast, guests are transferred back to San José. It is recommended to stay an extra night before flying out in case of unforeseen delays.

Bajo Alcyone

Bajo Alcyone is the place to see the Hammerheads amongst other pelagic. The abundancy of resident sea life makes this site one of the island’s signature dives. Mantas, Whitetip Sharks, Whale Sharks, Silky, Blacktip Sharks, and hundreds of schooling Hammerheads are everywhere. And underwater plateau, discovered by Cousteau when he visited Cocos Island, is home to a variety of sharks.

Manuelita is awesome, offering a variety of diving experiences all at the same location! In the shallow area, you can see hundreds of Whitetip Sharks during the night dives. Cleaning stations allow divers to come face-to-face with schools of Hammerheads. Schools of Snappers and Jacks are everywhere and in the deeper area, hiding places abound for divers waiting to watch all the action. A magical dive, day or night!

Punta Maria

Cocos Island, Costa Rica

Punta Maria is a seamount that rises from a deep sandy area up to 90 feet on the main rock and with two pinnacles reaching up to 65 and 75 feet below the surface, which can only be visited when the current permits. It is a cleaning station for hammerheads and hosts large colonies of white tip sharks and marble rays.

Viking Rock

Viking Rock is a fantastic dive site where you can see Hammerheads, White tips, Eagle Rays, Turtles. This is a small helmet-shaped island on the northwest corner of Wafer Bay. A vertical wall leading to large step-like surfaces creates a variety of habitats where one can see both small creatures and large pelagic species.

Silverado

Cocos Island, Costa Rica

Among Cocos Island’s many attributes is a startling degree of biodiversity. This Island’s world-renowned waters explode with life; including innumerable white tip reef sharks, schooling hammerhead sharks, dolphins, mantas and marbled rays, giant moray eels, sailfish, and of course the occasional whale shark. Other common encounters are large schools of jacks and tuna, silky sharks, frogfish, silver tip sharks, marlin, Creole fish, green turtles and octopus.

Submerged Rock

Cocos Island, Costa Rica

Underwater, this rock plunges down both sharply and gradually. It is broken up with large ledges, some with sandy bottoms, and an outer pinnacle. The colourful, prolific fish life gives relief to the harsh contours of the reef. Sometimes the fish gather in such numbers that they momentarily blot out the sun.

Bait Ball

Cocos Island, Costa Rica

This phenomenon occurs when the little bait fish, upon being hunted, seek protection by forming a furiously spinning silvery ball. This is an attempt of a small species to intimidate and confuse a predator. In a bait ball you can find different bait fish and different hunters. Sometimes the bait fish will be trapped between the surface and the hunters below. This is when the boobies and frigate birds will join the feast. These special events can happen anywhere and at anytime.

Shark Fin Rock

Cocos Island, Costa Rica

From the surface, this pyramidal rock looks exactly like its name, shark fin. This beautiful site hosts a huge school of thousands of bigeye jacks and is the home of an active colony of friendly marble rays. Because of the heavy surge often present on the spot, Shark Fin can only be safely dived between 40 and 120 ft.

Lobster Rock

Cocos Island, Costa Rica

On this finger-like rock, divers can easily approach large white tips lying on the bottom in great numbers. In the deep sandy area surrounding it, the elusive rosy-lipped batfish can be found between 90 and 120 feet.

South of Cocos Island. The reef is about 27 metres deep if you want to full presence of manta rays! The reef is believed to be part of the submerged mountain range. It can be a boat, drift or deep dive.

Little Dos Amigos

Known for being a hammerhead cleaning station. Located south-east of Cocos Island, below Big Dos Amigos dive site. The visibility is 20m. This dive site often suprises divers as the open sea current first reaches the island at this point bringing in a wide variety of marine life.

Bajo Dos Amigos

Cocos Island, Costa Rica

Bajo Dos Amigos is a seamount shaped like a king's crown; this is the only place where black coral colonies can be watched at safe depths, between 100 and 130 feet. Definitely not an easy place to dive, due to the strong currents normally present on this site, we will only visit here during the dry season.
