The Revillagigedo Islands (also Revillagigedo Archipelago or Islas Revillagigedo) are a group of four volcanic islands in the Pacific Ocean, known for their unique ecosystem. The islands are home to many endemic plant and animal species, and are sometimes called Mexico's "little Galapagos". Socorro island is the most diverse in flora, fauna, and topography.

The islands lie 250 miles off Baja Mexico's southern shore. When embarking on a trip to the Socorro Islands; possible destinations on the itinerary are San Benedicto, Socorro, Roca Partida and Clarion Islands. The islands are home to many endemic plant and animal species, and are sometimes called Mexico's "little Galapagos".

These islands are a spectacular magnet for the largest ocean pelagic animals in the world. Schooling Hammerhead sharks, Tiger sharks, dolphins, silky sharks, Galapagos sharks, clouds of jacks and barracuda, tuna, wahoo, oceanic white tips sharks, whale sharks and mantas.

Mantas are the claim to fame for Socorro Islands; the island on which they seem to congregate the most is San Benedicto! The magical dive site called "The Boiler" is a submerged sea mount and cleaning station. More than a half dozen Mantas frequent this pinnacle regularly. The Mantas here are the friendliest I have ever experienced, they seem to enjoy the presence of humans. This is truly an exceptional place if you wish to really experience the Manta Magic.

Humpback whales visit during the winter months of January through April. This is a splendid time to hear the sound of the singing mating male escorts underwater. This destination can only be dived by a live aboard dive vessel. It takes approximately 26 hrs one way to reach the islands. This is an excellent dive destination for large pelagics due to the open ocean nature of the islands, which sometimes include currents and choppy conditions. The underwater topography consists of rocky outcroppings, boulders and some walls. There is not much in the way of coral as this is a cooler water destination.

13 Days / 12 Nights (Approximately 36 dives in total)

Explore Baja - Puerto Penasco to San Jose del Cabo The Sea of Cortez's isolation provides a unique series of contrasting ecosystems from the vast solitude of the desert to the rich underwater realms and black coral gardens.

Abundant sun light and clear nutrient-filled waters inspired Jacques Cousteau to call this area "the aquarium of the world". A breathtaking destination for amazing scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, boating and exploring. Dive on untouched walls and reefs. Encounter large and small whale species, whale sharks, jumping mobula rays, and sea lion colonies. See Mobula rays jump in the air and make a magnificient night dive among them.

This trip is also an amazing opportunity to dive in Cabo Pulmo, one of the best kept Marine Protected Areas in the world. Day 1. Check in at boat at 5:00 p.m. - Puerto Peñasco Day 2. THINGS TO SEE: Jacques Cousteau and John Stienbeck saw the magic that the Sea of Cortez has to offer. Jacques Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez the worlds aquarium. John Stienbeck wrote "The Log of the Sea of Cortez" a journey through a remote and beautiful corner of the world, a diary filled with the daily excitements and triumphs of skillful and energetic men. It is also an invitation to see the world anew from a fresh vantage point and perhaps with a broader and more understanding spirit.

The bio-diversity between the Northern and Southern Sea of Cortez is incredible. Diving the entire Baja is spectacular. The sea life we witness on the surface from the boat, dingys or snorkling is fantastic.

Dolphins, sea lions, pilot whales, humpback whale, blue fin whales, orca and sperm whales. Flying mantas, blue and brown footed boobie birds, cormorants, frigate birds and the endemic yellow footed gulls.

ACTIVITIES: Diving, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, and explore small towns and missions.

The Boiler

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

"The Boiler" at San Benedicto is world-renowned for the up-close and personal encounters divers experience with the Giant Pacific manta ray. This pelagic, which is a relative of the shark, can grow to a wingspan of over twenty feet, yet they are gentle giants. Mantas commonly greet divers upon their arrival and stay as long as there are divers around.

The Canyon

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Located on the south side of San Benedicto, The Canyon is likely to provide you with more unforgettable experiences with marine mega-fauna. Mantas are often seen here too! Sharks are more the order of the day at The Canyon with healthy numbers of silky sharks, Galapagos sharks and hammerhead sharks being the most frequently sighted. While the silkies and Galapagos sharks may travel solo or in small groups, the hammerheads can be present in vast schools. There are also swirling clouds of reef fish cascading up and down the slope, and always a chance of a passing pod of dolphins, making it a great site for photography.

Cabo Pearce

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Cabo Pearce is located on the east side of Socorro Island. Look around immediately after you roll in – you might be surrounded by bottlenose dolphins. And if you are even luckier, they might be in the mood for company. Nothing is better than spending your whole dive with 20 to 30 friendly dolphins. But don't despair if the cetaceans are scarce –this is a great site for sharks, particularly whale sharks and there are plenty of giant manta rays.

The Aquarium

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

On the east of the island is a site popular with macro photographers – given its name it is no suprise that there are plenty of fish. The garish orange Clarion angelfish form large schools – the juveniles have bright blue flashes which fade as they mature. Lots of red-tailed triggerfish and crosshatch triggerfish roam this site.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Roca Partida

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Roca is a guano covered pinnacle about 85 miles from San Benedicto Island. As long as a football field, the pinnacle is in the middle of nowhere and is a magnet to pelagics. This is where Imany sharks, mantas, huge schools of fish, and whalesharks have been seen on past trips. Mantas, sharks and large schools of skip jack and yellowtail can also be seen.
